"Message of good wishes from the President at the beginning of 2012"

Following the message that the President has sent to all diplomates and residents at the beginning of 2012:

Dear diplomates of the ECBHM, dear residents,
2011 is definitely behind us and a new challenging year has just begun. It is therefore my pleasure to send you all my best wish for a happy, healthy, peaceful and lovely 2012, and, in respect to our ECBHM, full of success.

2011 was a very busy year for the college, and I would like to thank all officers and all residents’ advisors, our administrative secretary as well as all the people which have in any way worked in favour of the college for their generous commitment. I really appreciate the vitality of the ECBHM.
At the moment 26 residents are carrying out a residency training in 13 different institutions belonging to 9 different European countries.
Moreover, I would like to emphasize the fact that a total of 26 institutions have been approved by the Education and Residency Committee for running standard residency programmes, that means that we have an even wider margin for developing our potential of high standard education.3 out of the 26 residents are running an alternative residency; this is a kind of programme I would like to support in a particular way. Therefore I would strongly encourage all of you to explore the possibility of organizing an alternative residency programme, eventually sharing the operating management together with other diplomats.

Many of you will be required this year to undertake the re-evaluation. I hope this will be a new starting point for an increased participation in the life of the college.
As you know, the submission of questions for the Certifying Examination is one of the required criteria to obtain the re-certification. This is required not only to confirm active participation in the activities of the college but it is very important in order to supply the Examination Committee with high-quality questions to be used during the exams. Unfortunately, this is a sore point with our college, and I was repeatedly asked to urge all of you to satisfy this “must”, but I would prefer to say to give support in such way to the Examination committee.

Moreover, if some of you would like to be more involved in the “administrative” life of the college, for example by joining the different standing committees, then I please you to let me or our administrative secretary know. It will be really appreciated, and it will be useful to prepare in advance the nomination for the future committees composition.

I also would like to remind you of some appointment of our college:

In February (13th to 15th) our residents will attend the traditional “ECBHM-Residents-Workshop”, that will be held in Berne, with the title "Interpretation of herd health data from dairy farms – clinical, epidemiological and economical aspects", and that will be shared with the residents of the ECVPH (European College for Veterinary Public Health). The workshop is restricted to registered residents, and the residents which are in their residency program will be partly financially supported by the college.

In April (20th to 21st) a representative of the board will participate to Annual General meeting of the EBVS (European Board of Veterinary Specialisation). The participation is reserved to the recognised colleges as well as to some invited observers from ABVS, EAEVE and FVE.

In April a representative of the examination committee will take part to a workshop organized by the EBVS on how to improve the quality of the examination procedure.

In June (3rd to 8th) we are all invited to participate to the XXVII world Buiatrics Congress, that will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, and that is organized by our Past-President Joao Cannas Da Silva. During the congress we will have our ECBHM-Annual General Meeting. I sincerely hope to meet all of you in this occasion.

Finally I would like to wish all the residents a “fructiferous” training year and to the one that will sit the exam a successful outcome. We need good and enthusiastic young diplomats.

After having apologized for my possible future shortcomings I wish you again the best for this hopefully wonderful 2012

Arcangelo Gentile
